Since the production of Avengers: Infinity War has started in January 2017 with the entire cast showing up, for us fans are left wonder one thing…where are the Infinity Stones? Well I am here to fill in where the Infinity Stones are currently at and where possibly the Soul Stone is hidden.
First, let’s go back to the Tesseract/Space Stone (or the Cosmic Cube for us comic book fans) that made its first appearance during Captain America: The First Avenger (If you did not see the post credit scene after Thor). The answer was provided by Thor himself, stating that the Asgardians fought the Frost Giants on Earth as a part of a cross-realm war. During the war the Tesseract was lost but found 600 years later by humans and hidden away in Norway during World War 2. Now controlled by Red Skull, its intended use was to power HYDRA’s weapons, but the plan was foiled by Steve Rodgers and the Tesseract was lost in the Atlantic Ocean along with Cap after the final battle with Red Skull.
After words the Tesseract was recovered by Howard Stark but unable to unlock its secrets, S.H.I.E.L.D. held on to it until it was discovered by Loki after the events of the first Thor movie in the end credits. The final time we saw the Tesseract was during The Avengers, using its power to open a wormhole to let the Chitauri fleet invade earth from space. In the end Thor took the Tesseract back to Asgard along with a captured Loki. From this point on we know that the Tesseract is in Asgard stored for safekeeping.
Now for the Reality Stone (Aether) was first introduced to us during Thor: The Dark World. It was formed by the Dark Elf Malekith (played by Christopher Eccleston) who wanted to unleash its power to the Nine Realms. After Malekith and his forces was conquered by Bor (father or Odin) the Aether was kept inside a stone column for safeguard but at the same time unbeknownst to Bor, Malekith and a hand full of his Dark Elves escaped into suspended animation. When Jane Foster appeared in front of the stone column, the Aether bonded with Jane and thus awakening Malekith and his forces from suspended animation.
In the end, Thor had taken possession of the Aether after defeating Malekith. Later on the med-credit scene, we see Volstagg and Sif carrying a container that hold the Aether while visiting Taneleer Tivan aka The Collector (Played by Benicio Del Toro). The Collector was entrust the Aether to his care, commenting that with the Tesseract is currently in Asgard and having two Infinity Stones so close together would be unwise. As they leave, the Collector remarks “One down, five to go.”
During the events of The Avengers, Thanos gives Loki a scepter that allows him to control the minds of Hawkeye, and Dr. Erik Selvig. After the events of The Avengers, the scepter falls into the hands of HYDRA’s leader Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker, is shown in the mid-credits scene of Winter Soldier to have been using the scepter to experiment on humans. The two surviving subjects of Strucker’s experiment are twins Pietro and Wanda Maximoff, (aka Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch) the outcome of the experiment had unlocked superhuman abilities.
In the end, it was reviled that the scepter contained the Mind Stone and has artificial intelligence that programmed Ultron at Avenger Tower. During all the chaos Ultron managed to create a new body and placing the Mind Stone on to its head and trying to transfer Ultron himself to the new body. Once Ultron’s new body was captured by the Avengers and with the help of Bruce Banner and Tony Stark, they placed J.A.R.V.I.S. into the body of the now called Vision.
Now the Power Stone was shown during The Guardians of the Galaxy, trapped inside an orb taken by Peter Quill (or Star-Lord as he likes to be called) early on in the film. Once Peter and the gang made it to hide out of the Collector a placed called Knowhere, it was told to us about the backstory of the Power Stone itself an item of immeasurable power that destroys all but the most powerful beings who wield it. A drunken Drax summons Ronan to get his revenge but eventually fails and the Guardian lost the Power Stone to Ronan himself. On Ronan’s flagship, the Dark Aster, Ronan embeds the Power Stone in his Warhammer, taking its power for himself. He contacts Thanos, threatening to kill him after first destroying Xandar.
In the end Quill distracts Ronan allowing Drax and Rocket to destroy Ronan’s Warhammer. In the aftermath, Quill tricks Yondu into taking a container supposedly containing the Stone but actually contains a blue haired Troll, and gives the real Stone to the Nova Corps for safe keeping. As the Ravagers leave Xandar, Yondu remarks that it turned out well that they did not deliver Quill to his father per their contract.
Now the most recent addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the Sorcerer Supreme Dr. Strange, to me this is by far the most visually stunning move that the MCU has released. In New York City Stephan Strange was an acclaimed yet arrogant Neurosurgeon loses the ability to use his hand that made him famous for saving lives. Traveling to Kamar-Taj seeking out a way to regain control of his hand, but once meeting the Ancient One (played by Tilda Swinton) Stephen Strange had an out of body experience on what he can learn. Strange begins his tutelage under the Ancient One and Mordo, and learns from the ancient books in the library, now presided over by Master Wong.
Strange advances quickly over several months, even secretly reading from the text Kaecilius stole from and learning to bend time with the help of the mystical Eye of Agamotto. In the end of the film we found out that the Eye of Agamotto has the Time Stone.
Now this leads us to the final Infinity Stone that will show up in Phase 3 of the MCU, but the real question is where the Soul Stone located. We won’t know where the Soul Stone is until it is reviled to us soon but there are a lot of theories floating around in the web. But one theory I read might be true, it was shown to us during the first Thor film after looking back.
Now looking at Heimdall, yes the Guardian of Worlds himself is holding the Soul Stone well not really holding on but worn on his chest plate. Look up a picture of Heimdall his chest plate has an outline of a tree and right in the middle of it is an orange stone, strange isn’t it? The final nail in the coffin for me is how Heimdall says he sees everyone on earth as SOULS, not actual people. Clever Marvel thought we wouldn’t notice. Any who this is my short summary of where the infinity Stones are located and my theory on who might have the final stone that Thanos needs to complete the Infinity Gauntlet!
