This could be the future of the internet in the US. I’m sure by now you’ve heard the name SOPA or PIPA thrown around. In fact I’m sure you’ve noticed that many popular and very prominent websites have “blacked out” in protest to these devastating acts that our congress is even considering.
So what should you do?
Don’t just sit around and panic because your favorite time-waster is down for the day. Educate yourself, make a statement, spread the word.
SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and its sibling PIPA (Protect IP Act) were created to stop online piracy. Its heavily backed by Hollywood and its related industries who have seen a huge decline in their pockets due to the availability of pirated movies, music and media on the internet. For some reason they feel that if there is more control over what is on the internet and how it is shared then the money will start funneling back into their pockets. Guess who else likes money? Politicians. Originally it was supposed to go to vote today, its postponed till the 24th. So until then and even beyond decision time, I beg, plead, urge you to educate yourselves on this crime against our freedom and please, please, please sign all the petitions, email your local representatives.
