It’s been a decade since a hit JRPG was first released (in the US at least), and it has gained many fans for it appeals to many groups: RPG fans, Square/Square Enix fans, young and old Disney fans, and so on and so on.
The Kingdom Hearts fandom is still going strong and expanding, as is the story.Currently there are six Kingdom Hearts titles out (more if you count the Final Mix versions and count the different console versions as separate games):
- Kingdom Hearts
- Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories (GBA and PS2)
- Kingdom Hearts 2
- 358/2 Days
- Re:Coded
- Birth By Sleep
The story may be confusing since the games are released in random orders, but I assure you, it will all make sense in the end. Kingdom Hearts 3 has yet to be released in these ten years, but another large part of the story is going to be released soon; Kingdom Hearts 3D (Dream Drop Distance) may have a silly name, but it’s a step closer to the third and final chapter of the series.
The game picks up after KH2 and requires a bit of back story from Birth By Sleep to fully understand the main plot, but whether you’ve been there since the beginning or you’re just picking up on the journey, it looks to be an enjoyable game with brand new Disney worlds to explore. It releases tomorrow, March 29, 2012, in Japan, and is expected to be released early summer (speculation says July) in North America and Europe, for, of course, the 3DS. Keep an eye out for it, and I’ll keep you all updated on the release schedule. In the meantime, catch up on the story or re-live the memories of Sora, Donald, Goofy, and many more, as today marks the 10th anniversary of Kingdom Hearts!
