Searching for quality video game music to plug into your favorite MP3 player or just blast on a Youtube playlist all day can be quite a daunting task at times. #1: Skullgirls
Composed by well-known composer Michiru Yamane, the artist behind the Castlevania: Symphony of the Night OST, the Skullgirls track offers some great tracks that will surely make your day feel much classier. The Skullgirls soundtrack goes for a smooth, jazzy feel for the most part, while also including some hot, memorable tracks that get you revved up and ready to duke it out with any that decide to disrupt your musical flow.
#2: Phantasy Star Online 2
Sega games are known for having some very unique and catchy tracks. Phantasy Star Online 2 is no exception to this trend of phenomenal video game music. The songs are all full of energy, especially the boss themes. Definitely be sure to grab these tracks if you’re looking for something “different” in your collection of music.
#3: Koumajou Densetsu (1 & 2)
Though Koumajou Densetsu is basically Castlevania with Touhou characters, the music was not composed by ZUN, but instead by Yanagi Eiichirou. Despite that, the soundtrack has that slight Touhou feeling to it, making the soundtrack definitely worth checking out. Every song creates its own atmosphere, in a sense, and is sure to be a treat to the ears.
#4: Knights in the Nightmare
What really attracted me to the Knights in the Nightmare OST was how nearly every single song on the track manages to take me back to the SNES and PS1 RPG days. That may or may not be a good thing for some listeners, but the songs on the Knights in the Nightmare soundtrack really stand out from most soundtracks of today’s games not only for the nostalgia factor that they impose, but also for how well the songs manage to immerse you deeper into the game’s world. As for when you’re not actually playing the game, the songs manage to make everyday life feel like a tough boss battle.
#5: Grand Knights History
I had personally never heard of the game Grand Knights History until I saw a post by someone on Twitter mentioning just how great the game’s soundtrack was. After a couple of song searches on Youtube, I instantly became hooked onto this game’s music. The tracks in Grand Knights History kind of give off a bit of that good “old-school RPG” feel that really help to immerse you into a fantasy world. The songs in the OST contain that fast-paced “kick” that really gets your adrenaline pumping whether you’re procrastinating on homework, eating breakfast, or kick your butt kicked by “That One Boss”.
