A disturbance in the force…

Hey you! Get out from under that rock!

Earlier today Disney announced the acquisition of Lucas Arts, of course Lucas Arts is best known for the Star Wars universe. Just like any major news of Disney taking over “X” company (especially the “X” company, Marvel) there is a HUGE uproar in the geek community. But I’m sure that will soon pass. In addition to acquiring the rights and studios of Lucas Arts they also got the rights to Indiana Jones and announced a continuation of the Star Wars franchise with a 7th movie set to debut in 2015.

Speaking of which, 2015? Really? We get Avengers 2, Justice League and now a new Star Wars? That’s a whole lot to Chewbacca.

I’m actually not sorry for that pun.

Back to the merger.. I’m not sure how long its been since you’ve come out from under that rock but if you haven’t been to Disneyland or Disneyworld in the past decade or so then you should know that Star Wars already has a significant presence in the world of Disney including the Star Tours ride and the Light Saber Academy shows. Plus you can get an R2D2 set of mouse ears! It was really only a matter of time before the relationship went public. By no means is this a bad thing, it really just means a more secure and stable financial backing. Any concept that’s been teetering on the back burner will actually get to see the light of day! That’s something to be excited about. Lets face it, times are changing and what’s “retro” isn’t always going to appeal to the next generation so a little boost isn’t going to hurt. Especially if Disney is involved.

But still, there is a lot of ruckus floating around and it sometimes leans towards the negative. Just remember how weary we all were about the Disney x Marvel merger, it’s turned out to be a glorious thing.

And while we’re talking about internet ruckus.

Leia is not the newest Disney princess. Stop that.

Disney likes to pretend that Kingdom Hearts isn’t as big as it is. That’s why they keep putting out Epic Mickey games instead of Kingdom Hearts 3. I seriously do not foresee a “star wars” themed world. There will be no Light Blades or Key Sabers. So stop that too.

Now that you’ve listened to my rant, or skipped it here’s the breakdown:

October 30,2012

  • Kim discovers that she has a lisp and forgets how to words.
  • Disney announces the acquisition of Lucas Arts for 4.05 Billion. Because they’re Disney.
  • Tomorrow is Halloween
