A Dream Worth Chasing – Rainfall: The Sojourn

I must admit, I love Kickstarter. It is a fantastic platform that creative individuals can use to get their ideas great exposure. It’s where a lot of people found out about Divekick for instance, and now that is getting released!(albeit by a different route) A lot of projects start on Kickstarter, and I am going to keep going through the site to find interesting things for us geeks. On my trek through there today, I found a very interesting project that deserves your attention: Rainfall: The Sojourn. In case you didn’t know, I grew up in the NES/SNES era. My first console was a NES, so I know I’m not quite as old school as others, but I developed a great love for classic RPGs. They had great stories, music, character development, challenges, and many other things. The reason why this is amazing, even more so to this day, is because they did it without fancy HD graphics, surround sound, etc. This is why games like Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy 6, Chrono Trigger and others were so amazing. I do appreciate the masterpieces of today, but I long for the great works of art from yesterday. It’s because of this that Rainfall: The Sojourn really caught my eye. This project is being headed by a team of four individuals led by Karim H., and a few other contributors. Their inspiration comes from games like Shadow of the Colossus, Secret of Mana, Suikoden, and others. They want to make a game with a rich story, great gameplay, puzzles, the “complete package” as they say. The battle system will be deep, the hero won’t be the silent type, and the writing style is being heavily influenced by Final Fantasy 6(FYI, the best Final Fantasy in my opinion). Can you tell why I’m excited? They don’t want to leave anything untouched, I can see the inspiration and drive is there. I don’t want to give any more details on the world, story, and inspiration. Please go to their Kickstarter page by clicking the image below and go through it all, it is truly a great piece of work. The graphics are a true homage to the 16-bit era, the artwork is great, and they have samples of the game music on their page…I’ve already listened to every piece at least five times. I want the soundtrack to this game, no joke, it sounds fantastic. The project has a very low goal to hit, heck, it’s already been hit. I would love if they hit their stretch goals though, as they have lots of great things planned. This will initially be a PC game, but I’m sure that won’t bug many people. I don’t care what platform I play it on, Rainfall looks like an homage to old school RPG quality that I want to sink my teeth into. Hit up the link on the image to visit their Kickstarter page. If you don’t believe me, listen to any of the four tracks. I guarantee you that you will want to make sure this project comes to life.
