Hey BRO! Do you like guns, knives, and things that EXPLODE?! HOW ABOUT CAPSLOCK? OF COURSE YOU DO! THAT MEANS YOU HAVE TO TRY BROFORCE, A GAME SO EPIC THAT IT MAKES THE EXPENDABLES LOOK LIKE A BUNCH OF BUNNIES NIBBLING ON BABY CARROTS IN A FIELD OF PANSIES!
In all seriousness though, BROFORCE is amazing. Take your favorite action stars from MacGyver to Robocop to Blade, pixelate them to near indistinguishable levels and throw them in a platformer. Sound hilariously badass?! Well, it is!
Like most other platformers, the controls of BROFORCE are extremely easy to learn. A quick flick through the buttons of your controller/keyboard and you’ll have it down in no time. Left, right, jump, melee, shoot, grenade, BOOM! Cool. But, even with simple controls, each character plays very differently. Rambo for instance, has a basic assault rifle, grenade, knife set up while Arnold (you know which one I’m talking about) has a rocket launcher, knife and more rockets combo. There’s even short range characters like Blade or Mr. T. Blade runs around with his sword, which is fantastic and Mr. T has a flamethrower that obviously doesn’t shoot as far as a rifle.
While I’m talking about the characters, I feel that I should mention the randomness of which character you play. At the start of each level you are assigned a random bro and throughout the levels you can free other bros from being held hostage. Freeing them not only changes the bro you’re controlling but it gives you an extra life. This gives the game a bit of depth. Do you need an extra life at the risk of getting a bro that may not be your best played character? Or should you continue blowing stuff up as The Terminator? Eight times out of ten I chose to get the life and switch bros but, I can say that I’ve been screwed over by it. You know what’s harder than destroying a helicopter with a shotgun? Destroying it with a sword. Even with the vastly different play styles though, the characters are pretty balanced and levels are doable with any of them.
Onto the levels. They all feel quite different and are so unbelievably fun to blow up. By far the most fun and infuriating of levels are the boss zones, hands down, seriously, they’re insane. Not only are the bosses quite difficult but, the game gives you no hints as to how to take them down. This brings back the essence of old school platformers where players had no clue what to expect. The only way to figure it out is to try and fail a few times. With the first boss, I died about ten times before realizing what I had to do. Don’t worry, I won’t spoil the fun.
There are even other game modes such as Race, Explosion Run and Deathmatch. I have to admit that I have not tried them yet but, I can imagine they are just as fun as the campaign because, what’s better than blowing up your friends with a stick of dynamite?
Overall, for the game being in early access, it is super addicting and well made. I highly recommend it. If you looking for a new, high action time waster, BROFORCE is the game for you.Still on the fence? Check out the February update trailer. It’s BROTASTIC!
If you’ve already played BROFORCE, let me know what you think in the comments below. Who’s your favorite bro? How many times did you fail at the first boss? And, as always, I’ll catch ya’ next time!
